But when people talk about the Z06 they talk about it beating the Viper T/A, 458, Porsche 911, etc.

yet people brought up the fact of price point.

This car is going to be expensive as fuck. If Ford shoots past the $150,000 price mark, I have a hard time believing the demand will be there, unless it absolutely dominates everything short of an Agera.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

wrong price bracket bruh

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

so ignorant. So dumb.

Let's compare $80k car with a "estimated" $250k concept.

So ignorant.

So why is it that we can compare the Z06 to the other cars and the GT can compare to the Z06?

The GT is in the same ring with them.

Also most Z06's Ive seen have been close to the 100k mark not the 80k mark. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

The Z06 versus the world is a fun claim because its a giant killer. i.e. it performs well against cars costing much much more. The new GT will preform to a high level...though we don't know HOW high...but its now a giant, not a giant killer. Will it likely be quicker than a Z06? Yes, but its not really that much of a shock, unlike the "blue collar" Z06 that punches above its weight. If this were a cheesy 80's sports movie, the Z06 is the local hero who could catch his big break by winning the race against the well funded and prepared out of town teams (Ford GT). They both deserve to win (except that mean team captain who eventually learns to respect people) but we're only cheering for the local kid.

"So why is it that we can compare the Z06 to the other cars and the GT can compare to the Z06?"

Simple it's ont thing to compare low to high as a being impressive. but to compare high to low is just kind not the same sort of thing.. if some that is $5 is better than something that is $40 that's impressive. but if the $40 thing is better than the $5 thing, well yeah you'd expect that! it should be!

No you´re wrong. The Z06 (like the Tesla) is solely being compared to non-American cars. For example: That Mercedes Actros semi truck is nice and all, but the ´murican Z06 kills it on the track.

Since the GT is also american, this comparison doesn´t hold anymore...*sits down, grabs popcorn*

Punching up makes you a hero. Punching down makes you a dick.

When you compare the Z06 to something 2x-3x the price with a favorable result for the car, it's awesome and everyone loves you. When you point out that the new GT is likely to be the better car anyway, it's stepping on people's hopes and dreams and everyone reacts like you've touched them inappropriately.

Chevy Bruh.. Cheap Bruh.. or something like that. Now I'd LOVE a Corvette C4.. Don't really care for the newer ones (love the engines though.) But I do love the new Ford GT Concept, but since I also love the Lexus GS 450h F-sport my thoughts might be invalid :P

Fully prepped LeMans may be another issue, but I think track times between the two streetcars are going to be comparable. The GT winning isn't a certain thing. We'll see what the VIR and Laguna Seca times, but the last Ford GT wasn't as quick as the same year C6Z. http://fastestlaps.com/comparisons/ch… This comparo is using the first year 2005 c6z as the later cars were much better and easier to handle. Still wanted it to be comparable to the 04 05 gt through.

Depends which lenses you're looking at it through. Sure, the Z06 is as fast, or close to being as fast as cars that cost 5 times it's price, but that does not make it a "supercar". Speed and lap times are only part of the equation in supercar ownership. It's also a status symbol. "I own a Ferrari". "I own a Porsche". "I own a Chevrolet". Which one of these is not like the others?

While the Ford GT is still a Ford, it has credibility. They established their pedigree. I think the car will sell like hotcakes as long as it's in the $175k - $250k bracket. Hell, it could be cheaper, but they don't want it to be too cheap... Then it wouldn't be a "supercar".

The Hellcat is a fat wallowing pig with a big engine to make up for other shortcomings. The Corvette has always been a sports car. I don't think anyone in a Z06 is worried about losing to a Hellcat on anything other than a 1/4 mile track.

because it's funny to see chevy smacking all the other high end cars with pushrods in a V8. Besides the corvette is blue collar, Adam Ferrara had his best quote on Top Gear US when driving the C6 ZR1,

"Born in Kentucky, been drinking bourbon, and looking for a fight."

A $100k car is not "blue collar". GM is making fools out of their buyers by dangling the Z06 in front of their faces and then getting them to by Z51s.

Bruh a stiffer suspension, heavy steering, bigger brakes, sticky tires, and an ESC off button won't make it handle like a sports car.

So it's only semi affordable when compared to cars that cost upwards of twice the amount. When the hell did an $85,000 car ever become considered "affordable"?

Kinja'd!!! HammerheadFistpunch > Party-vi
01/19/2015 at 12:21

inflation? its a lot of money, I know, but its all relative. I mean, 85 grand today is only $67,824 just 10 years ago.

Kinja'd!!! Party-vi > HammerheadFistpunch
01/19/2015 at 12:26

Kinja'd!!!1

The median price of a new car is $30,550. How is more than twice that still considered affordable?

It just doesn't make sense to me that people are calling a $1,000 car payment "affordable".

Are we really already saying the GT will outrun the Z06?

It doesn't even have side mirrors yet, while the Z06 is hitting track days in customers hands

And on your final point about price, you can walk into a Chevy dealer and order a Z06 for $80k if you wanted to, so just because most are spec'd to $100k doesn't mean you can't get one cheaper.

Oh, and obsolete? The Z06 has never really been cutting edge. It's a pushrod V8 for chrissakes, and it still has more power than a concept car V6

Kinja'd!!! Jayhawk Jake > Cherry_man1
01/19/2015 at 16:25

Kinja'd!!!0

Uh, by what logic?

If the corvette is faster, then what's the point? It has a better interior, it's more useable, it's more affordable, it's probably going to be more reliable, it's definitely going to be more comfortable, it might get better gas mileage, it'll be cheaper to maintain...

In what way is the GT better if it isn't faster? Better looking? Not in my opinion. Worth more? Probably, but that doesn't make it better.

Kinja'd!!! Cowboy behind the wheel > Cherry_man1
01/19/2015 at 16:28

Kinja'd!!!0

Probably because the GT is going to sell for somewhere around $300,000. For that price it ought to be one of the top performing cars in the universe. It's absolutely expected, and in fact, if it doesn't, it will be a letdown.

For the Z06 to have similar performance at 1/3rd the price, is unexpected and thus very impressive.

Your meme pic and argument would be similar to a guy with a fast fox body having some good runs at the track and then a guy with a new Mustang GT which cost significantly more rolling in and edging him out slightly and acting like he won some impressive battle nevermind that his car cost a shitload more.

it's not made of cheap materials, not a bail out car, has better history, more iconic, no data has been shown about speed or final HP or curb weight so the GT will more then likely be faster and handle better.

Kinja'd!!! Jayhawk Jake > Cherry_man1
01/19/2015 at 17:31

Kinja'd!!!0

The corvette isn't made of cheap materials, it's plenty iconic in its own right, it's been in constant production since the 50s instead of being a tribute car once in a blue moon...

...and how does the lack of specifics mean it will likely be better? It could just as easily be worse.

Bailout car? Sounds like the words of a mindless Ford fanboy who doesn't realize GM hasn't been government owned for years.

And no data = better? Well then let me present the Jake Industries SuperSport LZ-84732FX. Concept picture? Nope. HP or torque figures? Nope. Weight? Nope. Suspension technology? Nope. Absolutely no information given so you KNOW it's going to be the best car in the world!

Corvette's really havent held the build quality i expected them to have. Still using fiberglass? Common, use aluminum and carbon fiber already. Also just because it was made longer doesn't make it better. Like Mustang the Vette had it's bad side. (using the mustang as another 50 yr production car ex)

It means like what they did with the GT500 for 2013 they could of sandbagged the HP rating.

Kinja'd!!! Jayhawk Jake > Cherry_man1
01/19/2015 at 18:06

Kinja'd!!!3

Now I know you're just pulling stuff out of your ass: the current corvette has a largely aluminum frame. The last Z06 even had an aluminum frame. The current Z06 and previous ZR1 had a ton of carbon fiber as well. Regardless, the places where the corvette is fiberglass it's the best material to use. Non structural body panels made of fiberglass will cost significantly less than carbon while weighing nearly the same. I have seen no complaints about the build quality of the current Corvette, by all accounts it's a world class automobile.

I'm not saying that being made longer makes it better, I'm saying that its track record gives it plenty of history. Even in racing the Corvette has a hell of a track record, that can't just be brushed off like you want it to be.

I'm not telling you not to like the Ford GT, just don't make shit up to justify it.
